At Candela, we make hydrofoiling electric boats and ferries that are the first to combine long range with high speed. Our innovative hydrofoil technology cuts energy use by 80%, creating silent, fast, zero-emission vessels with unmatched efficiency. Simply put, we’re revolutionizing sustainable water travel.
Our vessels are suitable for private or public sector operators, including public transportation, hospitality, or taxi services. Operators benefit from reduced fuel expenses and minimal maintenance requirements, translating to higher profitability and sustainability for their operations. Quiet and without a drop of oil onboard, they are also infinitely gentler on marine ecosystems.
Water is the Earth’s greatest infrastructure, flexible and inexpensive,
with an enormous potential to transport people around our
waterborne communities. With innovation,
we can both unlock that potential AND safeguard its
value for future use and generations.
With large cuts in operational costs, we can stop using large ferries, dimensioned for peak moments, and move towards fleets with multiple small and nimble craft. The upfront investment remains the same, but efficiency increases dramatically, with higher frequency and more convenience for passengers. Operators benefit from lower total costs, while commuters, employers, and communities enjoy a myriad of other benefits.
Our professional vessels use 80% less energy than conventional ships and have the ability to travel far and fast on pure electricity. This means a 100% reduction in emissions, particulate matter and NOx.
P-12 in Stockholm’s public transport
The world’s first electric hydrofoil line is now up and running as part of Stockholm’s public transport network. On line 89X, a Candela P-12 has been in operation since late fall of 2024, shuttling commuters from the suburb of Ekerö to the inner city. The vessel has proven its value by nearly halving commute times—from 53 minutes to around 30—thanks to a speed exemption within the city center. With its no-wake capabilities, the P-12 does not erode the shoreline or disturb marine habitats, making it a vastly faster alternative to cars, buses or the regular ferry on this commute. Needless to say, every departure has been full.Â

The P-12 Shuttle has 30 seats + 1 captain. Also, there is room for bikes and wheelchair seating and the maximum payload is 3 000kg
The P-12 Shuttle will have a Type approval- DNV Craft with passenger and battery notation. For local standards and certifications please contact Candela to discuss further.
The P-12 Shuttle handles rough water very well. Significant wave height HS 1 meter when foiling and HS 2 meters when not foiling. However, if the weather conditions are too rough, simply land, and the P-12 Shuttle works very well as a normal planing catamaran.
Actually, the foils are made of carbon fiber which makes them extremely strong. Therefore, hitting smaller debris has little to no effect. This is while, hitting bigger objects – a log or rock for example – will result in the foil breaking at a designated breaking point. Also, the breaking point is positioned to maximize protection of the hull from impact.
