Who We Are

We are

Producer of great wines since 1270

Since 1270, Weingut Zöhrer has cultivated the exceptional vineyards of Weinzierlberg. The Weinzierl district, home to around 3,400 residents, is one of the oldest areas in the millennium-old wine town of Krems on the Danube and the historic ancestral home of the Zöhrer family.

The townscape is defined by charming estates that, over the centuries, have evolved from mixed farms into today’s elegant winegrowers’ houses. The magnificent Kremser Weinzierlberg has long provided ideal soils and conditions for producing wines of outstanding character and quality.

Weingut Zöhrer

The Roots of the Winery & Family

The origins of Weingut Zöhrer date back to 1270, during the Babenberg era in Austrian history. Around 1300, Albrecht I (1255–1308) enfeoffed twenty of his most loyal followers with farmland, orchards, and vineyards in and around Weinzierl (today a district of Krems), establishing the feudal lords of Krems/Weinzierl.

Through generations, knowledge and tradition have been passed down to Anton Zöhrer. Today, the winery continues to nurture the grand single vineyards, some of the most prestigious in the Kremstal region, striving to unlock their full potential in every vintage.

The strength of Weingut Zöhrer lies in the unique terroir of its single vineyards: Kremser Sandgrube, Kremser Weinzierlberg, Kremser Gebling, Kremser Thurnerberg, and Kremser Goldberg.

Many of the vines were planted by Anton’s grandfather and father 40–80 years ago, with a focus on the classic varieties of Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. The resulting wines are distinguished by their clear expression of terroir and enjoy recognition and esteem on the international stage.
